Fishing Kayak Overview - The Wilderness Systems Thresher 140

I recently purchased from Cornwall Canoes another fishing kayak the Wilderness Systems Thresher 140 as an additional kayak to my Prowler Big Game. This will be used for certain fishing situations whereby, the extra speed and ease of movement through the water compared to my Big Game would be very useful.

The video below is an overview of the kayak for those thinking of taking up kayak fishing or purchasing another kayak.

    1. Hi David. Thank you for your comment and the link. When researching this kayak before purchase, I found this video and it was very useful to understand the Flex Pod OS and by coincidence, I recently purchased some T bolts from South Coast Canoes for the fitting out of my Thresher and I understand they get them made mainly for Railblaza accessories. 3. Hi, great review. Your videos have inspired me to get a kayak to use as a fishing platform. I was considering the 'thresher' before you posted your review, have you had chance to get her out on the water yet? I would love to hear what she's like to paddle and fish from.
    Kind regards.

  4. Thank you for the comment. Yes I have been out fishing from the Thresher but not on camera yet. It is a great fishing kayak and the rigging was easy with all of the tracks it comes with. It paddles fine and I can get between 3 and 4.2 mph depending on the wind and tide so not an ultra fast kayak but faster than my Prowler Big Game. Apparently, the Thresher 155 is faster but that is a very big kayak. The centre hatch by the seat has proven very useful and to date I have used it to store spare tackle. The bow compartment has been very useful for fish storage and you just need to shuffle forward onto the centre hatch to reach the compartment to pop the fish in. So yes, no problem in recommending this for fishing at sea. Any more questions feel free to contact.

    1. Thanks Rob. I'm torn between the two sizes and the moment. Did yours come with a lift out tray for the central hatch? I've seen some pictures of them with a lift out tray.
Did you find the rudder beneficial? I also would get a rudder as I would like to fit a torqeedo motor in the future.
Looking forward to more reviews and videos. Keep up the good work!
      Thanks again

    2. No it did not come with the tray but I have ordered it as it would be useful for tackle. The rudder is handy to have when paddling in a cross wind and really helps to keep the kayak straight rather than having to paddle more one side than the other. If you can, I would get it with rudder and at least you have the option to use it or not and it is no problem lowering and raising when required. Nothing worse than wishing after purchase that you had the rudder then having to buy the kit and fit it yourself particularly if you intend to go for the new motor they are supplying that fits in the OS Pod section. I understand the dilemma regarding the 140 or 155. I would like now to see and try the 155 just to feel the difference. Rob.

  5. Hi mate. Great vids by the way. Where did you order the lift out tray and how much was it? I'm considering buying a 155 but would def want better storage options for tackle in the centre hatch. Thanks

    1. Thank you for the comment. I ordered it from AS Watersports however, it still has not arrived from the US. The problem with the accessories is they usually have to be ordered and it all goes through the UK importer Palm no matter which retailer you order from. This means waiting for the next shipment to the UK. If you are lucky you may catch a shipment about to go if not could mean waiting. Mine supposed to be in the UK in April but it was ordered in October! Apparently, there are more shipments in the summer months. Any Wilderness retailer can order one for you such as Cornwall Canoes or another Canoe Shops group member but I was ordering some other bits from AS Watersports at the time and placed the bin order as well. The cost quoted is £29.95 for the stepped bin. Will be really useful when I get it.

    2. Further to my recent reply. It may well be that a few are coming into the UK on the shipment due in April rather than just the one I ordered so you may be lucky.
