Kayak Fishing - Cod, Mackerel, Squid, Herring, Whiting, Bull Huss - Multi Species Fishing

Multi species fishing on this trip during the Christmas holiday period using both bait and lures. I have a great day catching six different species of fish Cod, Mackerel, Squid, Herring, Whiting, and Bull Huss.

Shown in the video below, the Squid fishing was particularly good and a great way to spend the Christmas holiday out fishing and catching some fantastic fresh fish for the dinner table along with some catch and release. The video has a mix of live commentary and narration with some interaction with other anglers.

Kayak Fishing - Cornish Cod and Loads of Whiting - Precision Anchoring

Taking advantage of a short weather window to get out to do some kayak fishing targeting good sized autumn Whiting with the chance of a Cod (Codling).

In the video below, I set out at dawn in flat calm conditions however, with the weather forecast to come in rough it was a case of catch what I could in the time available. I talk about precision anchoring, the tackle, the bait, and the rig and have a great day with plenty of fish until the weather forced an end to the session. Cornwall is not known as having an abundant inshore Cod fishery therefore, it is always great to see and catch them close to shore.

Catching Prawns with a Push Net, Cook, Prepare, and Eat Two Ways

Prawns are great fishing Bait for Bass but they are also great to eat for those of you that like to do a bit of coastal foraging.

Shown in the video below, I catch the Prawns using a push net in seaweed, cook, and prepare them at home with two different and delicious Prawn recipes.  Bon Appétit!

Fly Fishing for Trout - Old Man Catches His First Trout on the Fly

Fly fishing for Trout in the video below where I fish a lake Trout fishery called Pochard on the Buckinghamshire Bedfordshire border. Pochard is a great fishery located in a fantastic peaceful setting and I have a great time as a beginner trying to catch my first Trout on the fly having never fly fished for Trout before.

A great experience and something I definitely want to do again in the future. Video Below:

Shore Fishing - Dawn, Rain, Soaking Wet, Seagull, Mackerel, and Bass

In the video below, I am spinning from the rocks in Cornwall for Mackerel and Bass on a dawn so called ‘summer’ morning. Unfortunately, unexpected events made this a difficult session, one of those sessions we all get now and then.

Catching a Bass for Dinner - No Time for Talking!

Another little extra catch and cook video. I try to catch a keeper Bass shore fishing in Cornwall and a great way to fish for them is float fishing with live prawns and a bubble float in shallow water. Since Mid July, I had caught shore fishing over 50 Bass and all were under the legal size limit of 42cm and returned. With the take limit of one Bass per day running out in a couple of weeks (Oct 31st 2019), I was keen to at least have one Bass for the table this year.

Shown in the video below I catch the Bass and back home, prepare and cook the fish using one of my favourite Sea Bass recipes. Bon Appétit!

Horse Mackerel – Catch, Prepare, Cook, and EAT!

Horse Mackerel are not considered by many in the UK as a good eating fish and mainly used as pot bait or fishing bait for other species. I have had people say you cannot eat Horse Mackerel and they are not good to eat however, I have enjoyed eating them for many years and they are enjoyed in the Mediterranean and North African countries therefore, most of the UK commercially caught Horse Mackerel are exported.

In the video below, I try to show that in fact they are good to eat and show how I prepare, cook, and enjoy them using a simple Horse Mackerel recipe. Bon Appétit!

Kayak Fishing - Targeting Autumn Mackerel and Squid

A combination of Mackerel fishing and Squid fishing in the video below and both are high on my list of favourites to eat. I set out on the kayak on an early autumn morning with a short weather window to see if I could catch some using sabiki’s feathers and a jig for the Mackerel and Squid jigs for the Squid. I was glad I made the effort before the bad weather returned.

The Quickest Simplest Way to Tie a Stand Off Loop Knot - Dropper loop

Loop fishing knots are very useful and in the video below, I show how to tie a very quick and very simple stand off loop knot using a surgeon’s end loop. This is a great alternative to using a dropper loop knot and in my opinion much easier to tie as just as effective.

Shore Fishing - Bass Fishing with Live Prawns and a Bubble Float

Float Fishing for Bass in Cornwall with live prawns and a bubble float in shallow water is my favourite way of catching Bass and it can be highly productive.

In the video below, I collect the prawns using a push net and have a great session catching several Bass. In addition to the fishing, I talk about the rig and tackle.

Squid Fishing - SQUID QUEST - Catch, Dispatch, Prepare, and Cook

Fishing for and catching Squid to cook has become one of my favourite things to do each autumn in Cornwall UK. I head out on the kayak before dawn on a quest to catch some Squid using Squid jigs fished by vertical jigging in deep water.

In the video below, I talk about and show the Squid jig rig, how to make the rig using a very simple and quick method of tying a standoff loop, along with the technique used to catch the Squid. In addition to the catching of the Squid, I show how to dispatch a Squid. Back home I prepare and clean the Squid and cook using a fantastic and simple recipe. Tight Lines and Bon Appétit. WARNING: Contains the dispatching of a Squid.

Shore Fishing - BOMBARDA Float Lure Fishing for Sea BASS with FLIES

There are many different methods used when fishing for Bass and in the video below, I use a Bombarda Float otherwise known as Sbirolino or Spirolino floats and a fly.

I use a spinning rod to cast out the lightweight flies using the weight of the Bombarda float to cast those flies a distance. This is a very effective way of lure fishing for Bass with lightweight lures and an alternative way to use saltwater flies if you do not want to take up conventional saltwater fly fishing. I have a great session with several Bass caught and a lot of fun using this very simple method with great and effective saltwater flies.

Clamming for a CLAM Feast - Smoking RAZOR CLAMS - Awesome Free Food

Big low water spring tides give a great opportunity to do some foraging and in this case foraging for Razor Clams otherwise known as Razor Fish.

In the video below, I find the burrows of the clams and collect them using table salt. The salting method of catching Razor Clams works because they are sensitive to changes in salinity and eject from their burrows when it becomes too salty. There are a few ways of cooking Razor Clams and one of them is smoking. I smoke some of the clams and serve with a mustard sauce. Coastal foraging is great fun and enjoying a meal from the free food is even better. Bon Appétit!

Shore Fishing - SPINNING from the Rocks - Targeting MACKEREL and BASS

I fish a very rough ground rock mark in Cornwall spinning for Mackerel and Bass. Apart from the lure fishing and catching the fish, I talk about the lures I am using and why along with the tackle.

Most of the video shown below is one session but a small part at the end is another session.

Spinning for a Mackerel Dinner - No Time for Talking!

Another little extra catch and cook video where I had no time for talking. Spinning for Mackerel is great summer fun and a sporty way of catching them one at a time.

Shown in the video below, I catch the fish from a rock mark in Cornwall, prepare, and cook them for dinner served with some delicious homegrown new potatoes and salad from the garden. I hope that the video will tell the story. Tight Lines and Bon Appétit! WARNING: contains the dispatching of a fish!

Lure Fishing - Tips on How to Make Your Lures Last Longer

When it comes to lures for fishing, some lures are a reasonable cost and some expensive. Either way to me it is a good idea to try to make those lures last as long as possible for two reasons, one to keep the overall costs down and two, some lures are difficult to get hold of when you want them.

In the video below, I show a few things I do to try to keep my lures in good condition and get them to last such as, cleaning, storing, and maintenance.

Shore Fishing - Sea Bass Fishing with Sea Trout Lures

There are some great lures on the market designed for Sea Trout fishing in Scandinavia that work really well for our Bass and other species.

24g Westin Solvpilen and 26g Westin F360

In the video below, I fish a rock mark in Cornwall lure fishing (spinning) for Bass with two metal lures the 24g Westin Solvpilen and the 26g Westin F360 and have some great sport. In addition to the fishing, there are some tips and tactics for catching the Bass along with a casting tip for beginners.

Catch, Dispatch, Clean, Fillet, and Pickle Mackerel

I fish off the rocks in spinning for Mackerel a great fun way to catch them. Mackerel are an oily fish that will go off quickly and are at their best when eaten fresh however, there are ways to prolong the eating time of fresh Mackerel such as freezing the fish you have caught yourself, smoking them, and making Mackerel Pate etc.

In the video below, I show another way of prolonging the eating time by hot pickling the fillets similar to soused Herring. In addition to the Mackerel, Pollock and a small Bass are caught.

Shore Fishing - Rock Fishing for Bass with Paddle Tail Lures

Early morning shore fishing of the rocks in Cornwall fishing a rough ground mark for Bass (European Sea Bass) using the well known Fiiish Black Minnow and the Fiiish Black Eel weedless paddle tail lures.

In the video below, I talk about the tackle used, the structure of the mark, and the tactics used to tempt the fantastic and sought after Bass.

Shore Fishing - FANTASTIC Summer Fun Weedless LURE Fishing for WRASSE

Wrasse are abundant and offer the lure angler some great sport.

In the video below, I fish a rough ground rock mark on a fantastic warm Cornish summer afternoon and have some great fun lure fishing for Wrasse using weedless lures such as 3” and 4” Slug-Go’s rigged on weedless jig heads. I talk about the lures, the tackle, and the setup along with tips and tactics for catching the Wrasse in the very rocky and weedy shallow rough ground.

Catch, Dispatch, Clean, Fillet, Skin, and Cook Pollock Two Ways

Shore fishing in the video below, and I do some spinning from the rocks. I managed to catch a few Pollock and two were a decent size for shore fishing so I decided to do a catch and cook.

I cook the fish two ways one smoked after brining and the other baked with a simple recipe. The video shows the catching, dispatching, cleaning, filleting, skinning, preparing, and cooking of the fish. During the preparation I talk about the fish worm (fish parasite), which is common and normal in many fish and give a tip on how you can quickly remove most of the worms. Pollock are a great sporty fish to catch and are good to eat and a great alternative to Cod. Bon Appétit!

Rock Fishing for Wrasse with Limpets, Spark Plugs, and Paper Clips

Shore fishing in the video below, and I fish a very rough ground rock mark for Wrasse using Limpets collected from the rocks as bait.

Because the ground is so rough, with the potential of many tackle losses, I use a very simple inexpensive setup with old spark plugs as the weight and paper clips as a rotten bottom weak link. Limpets are natural bait for Wrasse that they can pull of the rocks with their strong mouths and crunch up the shell with their strong teeth and for the angler they provide readily available free bait.

Gilthead Bream Fishing - First Fish of the Year - Tips for Beginners

Gilthead Bream are a great fish to fish for and catch and this year (2019), I decided to target them more.

In the video below, I head out on the kayak in early May for my first trip to see if I could catch one. I used Razor Clam (razor fish) as bait and the video contains tips for beginners. I talk about the rig and the Shimano Baitrunner reel I am using and pass on some information given to me by a very experienced Greek Gilthead Bream angler regarding the very interesting way Gilthead Bream feed, which goes a long way to help understand how to fish for them.

Kayak Fishing - Lure Fishing for Plaice - Rig and Lures

The most common way to fish for Plaice is with fresh or frozen bait however, Plaice can be and are caught with lures.

In the video below, I fish for Plaice from the kayak using soft plastic lures and talk about those lures and the rig, which is the same rig as they use in the USA for Flounder (Fluke) fishing from a boat. Catching Plaice on lures is great fun and an alternative to the more conventional methods.

Take a Look Around the ULTIMATE Fisherman's MAN CAVE!

In the video below, I take a light-hearted off the cuff fun look around the fishing shed.

I have always wanted a fishing shed to store the tackle and a place to go and make a cup of tea, chill out, think fishing, and play with your tackle and for me; this is the ultimate fisherman’s man cave to do just that. Stay tuned for a surprise ending!

My Most Successful Sea Bass Rigs and When to Use Them

In the video below, I talk about and show my most successful Bass fishing rigs over many years of Bass fishing and in addition, when to use them depending on the different conditions.

I look at three Bass bait fishing rigs and one Bass lure fishing rig or setup. The video contains tips and tactics for beginners.

HUGE Tides and Clamming for a CLAM Feast - GAPER, RAZOR, and COCKLES

Big spring tides are a great opportunity to do some foraging for fishing bait or free food.

In the video below, I take advantage of some huge tides to collect some clams for cooking. I catch Gaper Clams (Horse Clams) an unusual clam by hand, the much sort after Razor Clam (Razor Fish) using salt, and Cockles by raking. The video shows the preparation and cooking of all three clams along with tips on how to collect them and find the burrows of the Gaper Clam and Razor Clam. Bon Appétit.

Kayak Fishing - Winter Mackerel, Herring, and More

The weather forecast was great so I headed out on the kayak just after Christmas. The plan was to do some drifting fishing with lures (jigs and sabikis) and some bait and lure fishing at anchor. The main target species was winter Mackerel and Herring but also hoping to pick up other species.

The video below shows the trip and contains tips and tactics for beginners.
